Mary Jo Putney
A New York Times, Wall Street Journal,
and USA Today bestselling author, Mary Jo Putney was born in
Upstate New York with a reading addiction, a condition for which there
is no known cure. Her entire romance-writing career is an accidental
by-product of buying a computer for other purposes. Her novels are
known for psychological depth and intensity. Winner of numerous writing
awards, including two Ritas and two Romantic Times Career Achievement
awards, she has five times had books listed among the Library Journal's
top five romances of the year, and
twice had books among the top ten romances of Booklist, the
magazine of the American Library Association. Her favorite reading is

Come and meet Harford County Executive David Craig at the
Festival Bookstore. He will be selling and signing copies of his book Greetings
from Havre de Grace, the story of the Chesapeake Bay’s “Harbor of
Grace” as documented in 265 postcards from the early 20th century.
E. D. Baker
E. D. Baker is the author of the Frog Princess series which
includes The Frog Princess, Dragon's Breath, and Once
Upon a Curse. Ms. Baker will read selections from the series,
including her newest book, No Place for Magic, which will be
available in bookstores in September. E.D.Baker made her international
debut with The Frog Princess, which was a Book Sense Children's
Pick and has been optioned for an animated movie. Ms. Baker lives on a
farm in Harford County where she and her family breed Appaloosa horses
and take care of enough small mammals to start a petting zoo. She
enjoys gardening, reading, swimming, and canoeing, although she is not

Katie Moose
Katie Moose is the author of several books on regional

Ron Tanner
Ron Tanner will discuss A Bed of Nails, his first
collection of short stories, which won the first-annual G.S. Sharat

of the West, The Pushcart Prizes, and Twenty Under

Vonnie Winslow Crist will demonstrate illustration techniques as well

Elaine Bunting
Elaine Bunting and Pat D'Amario co-authored the four books
in the Maryland Counties series which includes Counties of Central
Maryland, Counties of Northern Maryland, Counties of Southern
Maryland and Counties of Maryland's Lower Eastern Shore. Elaine
Bunting initiated the idea as a school librarian when students came to
her for information about Maryland's counties. She began to write
about Harford and St. Mary's Counties and Pat D'Amario, a
teaching colleague, teamed up with her to do the research,
broaden the perspective and co-author the four books in the series. The
program, for elementary through middle-school age, includes fun facts
and not so-fun-facts, about the books and illustrations.
Becky Titelman
Becky Titelman has been writing her whole life, from
pasting papers together and using stickers for the pictures, to writing
a full-length story from the ages of nine to thirteen. She now lives in
midtown Manhattan in New York City. She has recently been cast in an
off-off-Broadway production of “Footloose.” Becky loves children,
writing, singing, dancing, and living in NYC. Ms. Titelman will talk
about her extremely popular book, The Wonky Witch.
She is currently working on the second book in the series. For older elementary – middle school/young adult,
Ms.Titelman’s interactive website is filled with games, pictures,

Wendie Old has been a storyteller and children’s librarian
for over 30 years. Ms. Old’s program for children and everyone
highlights her book Groundhog Day: Book of Facts and Fun. She
will talk about writing and researching about groundhogs. She is the
author of biographies for middle schoolers. Two of her most recent
books, To Fly, the Story of the Wright Brothers (for younger
readers) and The Wright Brothers, Inventors of the Airplane
(for older readers) were published to commemorate the 100-year

JoAnn Dawson
JoAnn Dawson, author of the Lucky Foot series for ages 8-12
will talk about her life as an author and actress, as well as give
anecdotes on being a wrangler for TV and film. Come and meet her pony,

A horse lover since early childhood, Ms. Dawson lives with her husband
and two sons on a horse farm and bed & breakfast in Maryland where
they offer riding lessons, trail rides and a summer camp for children.

Dawson's film and television credits include principal actor in The

Beth
Maahs-Hoagberg, M. Ed
Beth Maahs-Hoagberg, Educational Director at The Highlands School will
present two programs. In Reading Readiness, she will discuss what
parents need to know before their child is ready to read. In
Understanding Disorders of Reading, she will discuss Dyslexia, language
processing, comprehension, fluency, and their relationship to the
printed word.
Beth Maahs Hoagberg holds a Masters in Education in Reading and
Language Disabilities from Loyola College in Baltimore Maryland.
Her post graduate work includes a multitude of classes, conferences and
workshops in the diagnosis and remediation of language disabilities,
Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism and other
learning differences. In 1975, she established the Harford County
Chapter of the Learning Disabilities Association and served as its
Charter President for six years. In 1976, before the days of Child
Find, she established the Preschool Enrichment Program in Bel Air, a
therapeutic nursery school for children with speech and language and/or
motor delays. She successfully raised a learning disabled
daughter, and she is currently a board member of the Maryland Branch of
the International Dyslexia Association (MBIDA).
The Highlands School is currently located in Street, Maryland but plans
to open the doors on its new building in Bel Air, Maryland in the fall
of 2007.

Margaret Meacham
FROM IDEA TO PUBLICATION
Ever thought about writing a children's book? Join children's book
author Margaret Meacham as she talks about the writing process,
including tips on getting started, finding ideas, creating characters,
revising, and the publishing world.
Ms. Meacham teaches writing and children's literature at Goucher
College and Gotham Writer's Workshops. She has lectured at schools,
universities, and conferences throughout the nation. She has just
finished a sequel to A Mid-Semester Night's Dream, and is
currrently at work on a new novel.

Book conservator Martha Edgerton, from the Johns Hopkins' Sheridan
Libraries Preservation department, will conduct a program on general
care of books and present a bookbinding demonstration in the
Exhibitor's Tent.

collections, participants will learn handling and storage techniques
that will prolong the life of their paper based objects - books and
flat materials such as newspapers, maps and legal documents.

that includes the sewing of the book's text block (the pages.) They

also view separate book components that demonstrate the progression of

Kimmie Meissner
World Champion figure skater, Kimmie Meissner, will be
reading to children at 1:30 pm at the Bel Air Book Festival. When
Kimmie is not skating, she loves to read, horseback ride, draw and play
tennis. Her motto is "Don't take yourself too seriously. Have fun!"
Kimmie has recently been named national co-chair for American Library
Association's 2006 Teen Read Week being celebrated October 15-21, 2006.
Come and meet Kimmie at the Bel Air Book Festival.
Prior to her scheduled time as Guest Reader, Kimmie will hold a short
autograph session in the Festival Bookstore tent where her Cool Kids

Gyleen Fitzgerald
Gyleen X. Fitzgerald, Principal Quilt Artist and Author will present a
program entitled "Something to Say: The Art of Writing Haiku Poetry"
for the middle- to high-school age group. Ms. Fitzgerald has been
quilting for many years and began needlework at the young age of
four.She has authored and published two books, Poetry and
Patchwork, a haiku poetry writing program for teens, and The
Dream, a picture book coloring project for younger children. Her

Michael Gaudreau
Michael Gaudreau is a storyteller, teacher, and visual artist from a
little town north of Baltimore known as Bel Air. He brings a sense of
wonder to life in his spirited telling of wonder tales from Celtic
lands. With ancestors hailing from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and even
Cornwall, Michael mines his Celtic heritage to bring you stories of
kings and tricksters, leprechauns and giants, often accompanied by the

Bunjo Storytellers
Bunjo Storytellers are Michelle Hamiel, Subhanallah Ali, and Bunjo
Butler. Even though each of the trio performs and shares separately,
they initially joined forces in 1989 and have been delighting audiences
of all ages for aver 17 years.
Each of the three is Library Managers, Educators, Workshop
Facilitators, and Storytellers in the African Oral Tradition. Their
wide repertoire includes variations and improvisations of the
"Universal Truths" found in the myths, stories, games, songs, and
proverbs of the African Diaspora as well as those of their own
creations.
Michelle, Bunjo, and Subhanallah, each have a fierce dedication to the
oral tradition and work avidly to keep it alive through involvement
with organizations that perpetuate the art of storytelling.

Chris Potts
Chris Potts is a storyteller and university instructor who tells
stories from around the world. She teaches topics in oral
narrative in her writing classes as well as writes and performs spoken
word narrative poetry. Chris describes the best stories as those
that capture the truth of what it means to be human: to love, to lose,
to laugh, and perhaps most importantly, to keep learning.

Meet The Kidsinger Jim Band featuring Kidsinger
Jim on guitar and vocals, Christine on bass guitar and vocals, and Art
McKinney on drums at 12:30 at the Bel Air Book Festival. They will be
performing Kidsinger Jim's catchy, original tunes such as "Daddy
Longlegs," "Zoo In My Room," "Let Kids Be Kids," and Jim's newest,
"Catnapper." Jim enjoys telling the stories behind some of his songs,
and encourages children to create their own poems, stories, and songs
from
their imagination or real-life experiences. Jim left teaching to
dedicate his efforts full-time to songwriting and performing. In 2005
he surpassed the milestone of 2,500 performances. Kidsinger Jim is
currently developing a children's radio show and has plans to turn one
of this songs, "Millie the Millepede," into a children's book.

Rolling Reader
Step inside the Rolling Reader, Harford County Public Library's
"library on wheels" for school-aged children. It is equipped with
books, talking books, homework resources, and two computers that
provide access to the library's catalog, online databases and the
Internet. The Rolling Reader visits after school programs including the
YMCA, YWCA, PAL and the Boys & Girls Clubs.

Wanted
The Book Lady is looking for used books. The Book Lady is a
non-profit organization that donates books and magazines to county and
state correctional facilities, shelters and reading programs, including
the Washington County Detention Center “Storybook Project.”
Especially needed are materials for children and young adults, and
those that are culturally diverse. Donations can be brought to
The Book Lady exhibit the day of the Festival. For large quantity
donations, contact The Book Lady at dwebb33@verizon.net.
